The first appearance of Joseph Stone in Connecticut records occurs when he married Abigail Jerome on 11 Jan. 1742 in Wallingford. He settled in the southwest part of Farmington, and he died 19 July 1765, no doubt in Farmington. That he is the same person as Joseph Stone of Rutland, Mass., is strongly supported by circumstantial evidence: - The chronology is reasonable.
- The Joseph Stone of Rutland, Mass., was the son of a Nathaniel Stone; the Joseph Stone of Farmington, Conn., had a son named Nathaniel.
- The Joseph Stone of Rutland, Mass., was a carpenter. As shown, the inventory of the estate of Joseph Stone of Farmington, Conn., lists a large number of carpenter's tools.
